How to Select Hospitalization & Surgical Insurance in Malaysia

(also known as medical & health Insurance or medical card insurance in Malaysia)

Common H&S Insurance Benefits

 

The following basic benefits are generally available in a Hospitalization & Surgical insurance plan in Malaysia. Make sure the H&S insurance you choose covered at least 90% of the following basic benefits, if not, it is not a comprehensive H&S insurance. 

Description of basic benefits           

Hospital Room & Board (e.g.120 days)

Reimbursement of the charges for room accommodation, meals and general nursing services during confinement in the hospital as an in-patient. 

 

Intensive Care Unit (ICU) (e.g. 30 days)      

Reimbursement of charges during confinement as an in-patient in the ICU. No Hospital Room & Board benefits shall paid for the same confinement period where the ICU is payable.

 

If the period of confinement in an ICU exceeds the maximum numbers of days covered, the reimbursements will be based on daily Hospital Room & Board rate.

Surgical fees

Reimbursement of the surgery charges by the specialists, including pre-surgical assessment, specialist’s visits and post-surgical care.

      

Anaesthetist fees

Reimbursement of the charges by the anaesthetist for the administration of anaesthesia.

 

Operating theatre fees

Reimbursement of the operating room charges incidental to the surgical procedure.

 

In-hospital physician visit

Reimbursement of the charges by a physician for visiting an in-patient when confined for a non-surgical disability.

 

Day procedure / Day surgery benefit          

Reimbursement of the charges for surgical procedure performed without hospitalization e.g. cataract removal surgery.

 

Hospital Supplies & Services

Reimbursement of the charges like general nursing, drugs and medicines consumed in the hospital, dressings, splints, plaster casts, laboratory examinations, X-ray, electrocardiograms (ECG), basal metabolism tests, physiotherapy, administration of blood and blood plasma excluding the cost of blood and plasma.
