How to Select Hospitalization & Surgical Insurance in Malaysia

(also known as medical & health Insurance or medical card insurance in Malaysia)

Provision of Hospital Admission

(1)     Cashless / With medical card / Depositless

Cashless means you do not have to pay the medical bill by using your own pocket money. The insurance company will settle your medical bill directly with the hospital.

This method of claim skips the step of filling up claim form.

Some hospitals still require certain amount of deposit even though you manage to produce the H&S insurance card to them. However, the deposit will be refunded to you right after they verify your H&S insurance status with the insurance company. This verification process takes about one to three hours.

However, for certain claims, you need to pay first and file the claims with the insurance company later even though you have the H&S insurance medical card. Examples of those claims are Day Surgery claims, Emergency Out-Patient Accident claim, Post-Hospitalization Treatment claim and etc.

Advantage:

(i) Hassle free hospital admission

You do not have to pay the medical bill by using your own pocket money except for the occasions discussed above. The insurance company will settle your medical bill directly with the hospital. You can skip the step of filling up claim form.

Disadvantages:

(i) Premium is higher

For the same H&S insurance policy, the premium rate for Cashless type is 25% to 75% higher compared to Reimbursement type of H&S insurance.

(ii) Limited choice of hospitals / specialists

In order to enjoy cashless facility, you have to choose a hospital within the panel hospitals list of the insurance company.
