(a) Individual ( Insured ) Individual plan is the most common H&S insurance plan in Malaysia.
(b) Family (Insured and spouse and children) A standard family plan constitutes cover for 2 adults (Insured and spouse) and 2 children or 2 adults and 3 children. Only a small number of insurance companies cover 2 adults and unlimited number of children. The definition for a child is either 19 years of age or 23 years of age if the child is still pursuing her full-time education, and who are not gainfully employed. Usually, additional premium is required if you want to cover subsequent child.
The premium rate will be based on the age of the oldest individual in the family. You can save a lot by purchasing family plan if you have a minimum of two children.
This is the second most common H&S insurance plan in Malaysia. Only a small number of insurance companies offered family plan H&S insurance. The ‘not real’ family insurance plan is the one which gives you 5 to 20% discount if more than one family member each purchase separately an individual plan at the same time. Beware of this marketing gimmick.
(c) Insured and spouse This type of plan covers 2 adults.
(d) Insured and children This type of plan covers 1 adult and maximum 3 children.
